Billy the Bus
I was able to purchase Billy, our coaster bus, after my mum passed away. I have yet to learn how to drive Billy. At the moment, my husband drives me around the country. To be completely honest, I am scared about getting a license. Sooner rather than later, I promised myself, I will overcome the fear. Currently, we are traveling from Melbourne to Raukkan, a small Aboriginal community in South Australia. To Raukkan we travelled inland and returned via the coastal road. Several times per year, my husband travels for work to various places. He used to fly there, but now that we have Billy, I am able to travel with him and work from Billy. Under the bed in Billy is a deep drawer in which I pack a small studio for myself. His work is all done online from the front of the bus in the square meter office he has created for himself.
Since we are off-grid, we can park in the many free spots around the country, to which we were totally oblivious before our travels. We never travel more than 200km per day. Having a solid working day somewhere beautiful, then sleeping somewhere nice, is ideal. I realize that it sounds romantic and easy on this page, but there are a lot of things to learn about it. My philosophy is to value less is more, and traveling certainly teaches me how to do that. I love the famous saying by poet, writer, and artist William Morris that we shouldn't possess anything we don't find beautiful or useful. When you live in a small space, you realize how difficult that can be. The skillet and saucepan I purchased are very good. It's all about one pan cooking. Morning coffee is made more enjoyable by a beautiful pour-over coffee kettle. Views from the window are breathtaking which creates a stimulation environment.
