Living with dementia

One of the gifts of art is to enable us to enter into other people’s lives and selves – but how is this possible when some lives have been dismantled, words fallen away, selves broken and lost?  

The ceramic roses are tangible and lasting. It is a physical mark and a form of memory. The  action of making is a way of making sense in the fragile place some of the participants find themselves in.  

I see my role as helping everyone experience life when we are together, as remembering individuals.  Our process in clay enables each person to convey experiences or communicate something that they might be unable to express verbally. The commonality of working in clay together, provides a sense of identity and worth
