Rugged
It has been five years since my last exhibition. Rugged is the title of my current exhibition November 2023. A collection of landscape and still life paintings in oil. If you cannot make it to the Diane Vitale gallery on Cook Street in Flinders, Victoria, you can view the exhibition here in the blog post. Please write to me: marian@marianbosch.com if you are interested in purchasing.
This exhibition will be hanging until the end of February 2024.
ARTIST STATEMENT:
The landscape gives me so much pleasure. I have a deep connection to place and how my environment translates as the 'felt experience' in a tangible manner through my paintings. New places offer new thoughts and possibilities from which I interpret my world. We recently purchased a bus to explore the beautiful places Australia has to offer. I am so grateful for this privilege, because my natural inclination is to stay put in the safe surroundings of my small studio situated on the steep hill of our property.
Frequent walks on the back beach and bay area in Blairgowrie on the Mornington Peninsula where we live inform my diaristic approach to painting and drawing through which I interpret my world.
Loosely discernible landscapes are formed from abstract marks, soft edges with oil using a limited palette. These works suggest rather than describe. My point of departure is an emotional response to my environment. During lockdown I started concentrating on painting still life in oil. Here I am focusing on the abstract elements of the subjects. That doesn’t mean that the subject is unrecognizable, it is just subordinate to the process and material in a supporting role to the content rather than being the content itself.
